School with a Difference

Chinmaya Vidyalya, Cannanore was founded by Poojya Gurudev H.H. Swami Chinmayananda in 1978. The Vidyalaya is co-educational and has four sections – Primary, Middle, Secondary and Senior Secondary.

Chinmaya Vidyalaya Campus at Govindagiri , Chala is set in a sprawling area of about 12 acres, 6.5 km from Cannanore City.

It is an attempt to meet the challenges with its unparalled verve and spirit. Far from the cramp and constriction of the city, this is an oasis offering the most congenial atmosphere to students for the attainment of academic excellence, spiritual and cultural enrichment.

In the quest for perfection and to provide the best facility to our children, the Vidyalaya acquired 12 acres of land at Govindagiri, Chala. The foundation stone was blessed by H.H Swami Tejomayananda in March 1995 and building was officially inaugurated by H.H Swami Tejomayananda by lighting the lamp at the Smrithi Mandap, dedicated to Poojya Gurudev on 15th November1998. The campus at Govindagiri, Chala has taken shape as per the vision of H H Swami Chinmayananda.

Chinmaya Vidyalaya Emblem

It's significance
The Chinmaya Vidyalaya has for its emblem the lamp and the ‘Hamsa’ bird. In the light of the Scriptures (represented by the light) the discriminative power of the human intellect is to be developed (represented by the Hamsa bird), Vedic tradition describes Hamsa as a bird that can drink alone from a mixture of milk and water. The human intellect with its discriminative power must be able to discriminate between Spirit and Matter and must come to enjoy the Spiritual Essence in the world of names and forms. Thus the emblem indicates that the function of the Mission is to help people in developing ethical values and cultivating in them a discriminative intellect.

Vidyalaya Motto

"Keep Smiling"

Gurudev blessed Chinmaya Vidyalaya with the motto “Keep Smiling”. This means : be brave and courageous always, face every experience in life with a smile on your face. In other words, be balanced in life under all circumstances – joy or sorrow, success or failure, honour or dishonour, prosperity or adversity. This calmness of the mind expresses itself in a smile. The Vidyalaya prepares children with an inner equipoise to enable them to face life with a smile.
